Align your mind to be in a state of self consciousness, being aware of self, being aware of what you are, you then have the upper hand and ability to place your thoughts in order. Obtaining order is what we all need in our lives, to be in control of self. Order then leads to one having pride in what they are, being proud is not arrogance, rather being confident in you as a person not as an extension of any material form.
